 Silicone & Acrylic

Acrylic and silicone rendering are a great external render solution for your home which both offer uniform textured coating which is breathable, flexible and hard-wearing. Acrylic rendering is available in more colours while silicone render offers better sunlight protection and self-cleaning properties.

At Elite Render Specialists Ltd we specialise in Silicone & Acrylic Renders and as can be seen in our Residential Galleries we have created some stunning transformations on peoples homes throughout Yorkshire and the UK.

Serving customers throughout Yorkshire and across the UK

we offer Silicone & Acrylic Renders solutions that deliver real results.

Find out more about our rendering process and how it is applied below:

1.

The first task is often to hire scaffolding to give full access to your property for the rendering work to take place. We work with a number of reliable, trustworthy and professional companies and will arrange this for you.

2.

Once the scaffolding is in place we will then ensure the property is protected against unwanted damage during the works, this will involve taping up the windows to protect the glass and the window frames from any scratches, staining etc. Rainwater pipes will be unscrewed from the wall and may be diverted in a different direction to avoid any unwanted wash offs during the rendering process. Any waste pipes will then be taped up and protected. These pipes will stay in place connected to the drains so these can still be used during the ongoing rendering. Any driveways, flagged areas, patios, garden areas etc. will be fully sheeted.

3.

Any pre-existing render will then be removed if loose, this will involve a hammer drill knocking off the render to expose the base If the pre-existing render is solid it may not be worth removing as it may cause the loosening of the brick or breeze block that could cause structural problems, in these cases a key may be applied to the rendered wall creating a stronger bond for our scratch coat to adhere to.

4.

The wall will then be brushed down to remove any dust/debris and then hosed down after if needed. The next stage is the scratch coat, the first coat of render, which consists of a 10mm coat of polymer render being applied by trowel to the wall with a fibreglass reinforcement mesh lightly bedded into the surface. This method is then repeated until the entire structure is totally covered. A 300mmx300mm square patch of reinforcement mash is then placed over any corners of doors, windows or openings at a 45-degree angle, this is called a stress patch. Corners are particularly vulnerable to cracks when rendering is involved this is due to the expansion of the render and any settlement occurring. All the strength of any rendering system comes from the scratch coat. All of JC Renderings render systems are on this reinforced scratch coat, it is a tried and tested system and has shown to perform over many years.

5.

Plastic corner bead with fibreglass mesh will then be applied level and plumb to all windows, doors and any corners these will help create a perfect edge to any corner. A bell cast bead/drip bead will be mechanically fixed horizontally along the damp course, any vertical movement joints will have an expansion bead fixed over the top to reduce the chance of cracking if any movement occurs in the building.

6.

Another thinner coat is then applied over the scratch coat and beads to approximately 5mm and is trowelled flat; this is called the level coat. Once this coat has been applied to the wall and has started to harden a damp sponge float is cast all over the wall to rub any trowel lines out and create a uniformed flat surface. This coats purpose is to create a flat surface for the silicone/acrylic render to sit on. This is then left to fully dry out and cure.

7.

Silicone-based primer paint is then applied to the wall using a roller; the purpose of this is to aid the adhesion of the silicone/acrylic render and also to stop the backing coat pulling the moisture out of the silicone/acrylic finish coat making it easier to work with.

8

Finally, the finish silicone/acrylic render coat is applied this can come in various depth of textures 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm etc. the most popular is 1.5mm. This is then trowel applied to the primed surface and scraped back to whatever the chosen thickness of grain is, quickly followed by a plastic float used to rub the surface in a circular motion to create a totally uniform textured surface.
