 Pebble Dash

Pebble dashing is a traditional style of render which consists of a coloured coat of render being covered by a single layer of pebbles. Thanks to the introduction of polymer render and the availability of decorative pebbles, pebble dashing has seen a resurgence in popularity over recent years.

At Elite Render Specialists Ltd we specialise in all aspects of pebble dash rendering to provide a cost effective, hard-wearing and weather resistant coating & finish to transform your property with the more traditional look.

Choose from smooth pebbles or jagged spa chippings all available in a range of colours to help give your home that unique & standout finish or simply

blend into the local surroundings.

Serving customers throughout Yorkshire and across the UK

we offer Pebble Dash solutions that deliver real results.

To give you an idea of the work involved in our pebble dashing service we’ve listed an overview of the process below:

1.

If needed a scaffold will be erected where the works need to be completed. This will be done by a fully insured, fully trained, considerate scaffolding company.

2.

All doors, windows, pipes, taps, driveways, patios etc. will be covered in sheets and taped up to ensure no damage occurs during the ongoing rendering works.

3.

All pre-existing render may need to be removed back to the bare brick/breeze block. We will try a couple of techniques to test whether this needs to be done. We may advise on the pre-existing render being covered because attempting to remove solid pre-existing render can loosen bricks/breezeblocks from the mortar holding them together and the render may have that strong of a bond the face of the brick/breezeblock may come away thus causing structural problems. If the render is solid and we choose to render over the top a key may be applied to ensure a stronger bond for the scratch coat.

4.

If removed the bare surface will then be brushed and washed down to remove any loose debris, then a 10mm coat of high polymer render is applied by trowel with a fibreglass reinforcement mesh embedded. The house will essentially be totally wrapped in the fibreglass mesh to prevent cracks and pre-long the life of the render. mmx300mm square patches of mesh will be placed on the corners of windows, doors and openings to prevent stress cracks. These cracks occur for a couple of reasons one being the render has expanded over time and hairline cracks appear from the corners, the other being settlement in the property. Whatever system/finish of render you have all the strength comes from the scratch coat (first coat of render) that’s why we will not install any rendering system without this reinforcement mesh in place. A light key is then applied to the render to assist in the top coat’s adhesion.

5.

Powder coated steel beads may then be applied (customer’s choice) to the doors, windows and any corners on the building. A bell cast bead/drip bead will be fitted horizontally along the damp course and any vertical movement joints will have an expansion bead fixed over the top to reduce the chance of cracking if any movement occurs in the building.

6.

A 10mm coat of dash receiver (high polymer dashing mortar) is then applied over the scratch coat being trowel finished to give a flat surface ready for dashing. Once a decent area has been spread the pebbles will be applied the traditional way using a bucket and shovel.

7.

Once the dashing is completed all windows will be uncovered/cleaned, scaffold swept, floors swept and floors thoroughly washed down with clean water.
